actually, since most consumers actually buy their systems with price in mind, i can see this becoming a reality. most of these systems from my area will end up in my repair shop, no doubt, but if the customer would actually listen to me (or other small shop techs) the first time, they wouldn't end up in this mess. to be totally honest, i warn every customer of mine of this real and present danger. i know my customers are informed. it's up to them whether they listen or not. otherwise, i'll gladly take their money. this is savings vs. education. believe me - i know consumers. this article is correct. most of these machines will end up in our hands. having a shop in a low income area, i know a lot of people will end up hearing from me. it's just so sad......all of that "prevent spyware, prevent viruses" talk -- in one ear and out the other.
ultimately, it's the customer's responsibility. if they wanna skimp a couple of dollars on the anti-spyware/anti-virus/windows update additions, then it's their fault.
