eWEEK Labs tested two of the latest business-oriented handheld computers based on Microsoft Corp.'s Pocket PC mobile operating system—Dell Inc.'s Axim x50 and Hewlett-Packard Co.'s iPaq hx2700—and we were pleased with the flexibility and connectivity options that each product offers. Both devices run Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, which offers improved display options, support for WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security and an invaluable Web browser tweak that finally makes viewing standard-size Web pages on Pocket Internet Explorer a viable proposition. | ||

PDA's are dead. the future is convergent cell phones. PPC is still to slow on these devices and the palm/symbian devices will rule the roost for some time to come. long live the treo! |

You couldn't be any more wrong! lol. PDA sales are up almost 14% this past quarter, PPC is actually ruling the devices as you can see below. And the PPC is indeed faster than the latest Palm incarnations.

Windows CE is the kernel from which various mobile platforms, such as the Pocket PC platform, are derived. By contrast, 850,800 Palm OS PDAs shipped in the last quarter, according to the study. That gave the Microsoft platform a 48.1 percent market share compared to a 29.8 percent for Palm-based handhelds." The only thing you are right about is increased smartphones, which MS will also ROCK. And PPC is FAR from slow. My PPC is MUCH faster than my Palm, indeed. |

do you own a cell, pda, beeper and laptop? would you rather have one device or four? do you own a treo? ask an owner what they think. you might be surprised. |

I own a cell (Audiovox with USB connectivity), PPC 2003 Tohiba E355 and a Dell Inspirion 5200 Laptop. I do not have a beeper. I also have two desktops at home.
I would rather have one device. I do not own a Treo I wouldn't be surprised. Owners love their blackberries too, but I don't own one, and they are not about to dominate the market. |

I haven't used PocketPC in a while. Is it still incapable of closing an application properly when you are done with it?
