Now you can log on to your computer and your favorite Web sites with the touch of your finger, without having to remember all those passwords—simply place your finger on the receiver whenever a password or username is required.
I don't know if MS' readers do, but some readers can setup low voltage feedback loops or use other methods to check if the finger is live.
#3 - I'd hope that the reader at your government facility does this. If so, you won't need to worry about severed fingers :)

Does anybody know if this product will provide methods for third party solutions? I'd love to see if I can write apps that take advantage of this device.

I've heard one of the problems with these devices is that the lowley little Gummi-Bear can transfer a fingerprint to them.
Is this true, or is that a wives tale?
Not that it would be an issue for home use. Wait, kids are awfully smart these days :)
