I didn't say brandnames guaranteed quality, they just have a tendency to track better towards obtaining quality.
Yes, many companies electronics are just rebranded. But I happen to know that these brands are RCA, GE, etc. However if I buy Sony I know that I'm getting a pretty decent television.
Although I also happen to know, based on my past experience, that I don't want to buy Sony if I am buying stereo equipment. Their TVs are fine, their receivers are not so good. So instead I buy Denon, or Harmon Kardon, or Rotel, etc.
In the case of this browser. Mozilla makes one, it's relabeled as Netscape. Now that can be good or bad depending on your perspective. The Netscape branded one has some different presentation or way of doing things. you might like that, you might not.
The same thing happens with say nVidia video cards. Most all of the cards out there have the same core chipset and reference circuitry. What differentiates the brandnames is some little add-ons, maybe different bundled software, etc. nVidia doesn't sell their own line.
On the other hand Intel and ATI do. I happen to prefer motherboards made by Intel, and if I want an ATI chipset card, i want one made by ATI. Again, just because of my past experience with support issues.
Life is complicated. Embrace the flip-flop.
