Windows XP Is Flying Off The Shelves! | |

Since its retail debut Oct. 25, Microsoft Corp.'s newest operating system, Windows® XP, is achieving high demand worldwide. So high that some retailers are having trouble keeping store shelves stocked with Windows XP. Growing consumer demand for Windows XP has led to sales that are exceeding initial sales of Windows 95 and Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me) and keeping pace with initial sales of Windows 98. "We are extremely pleased with the enthusiastic response from our customers," said Chris Jones, vice president for Windows at Microsoft. "We see Windows XP as being a positive catalyst for a great holiday season for the entire PC industry." | ||

I bought Windows XP Pro Upgrade at Officemax last week. They were out of stock and had to order it from their warehouse which took two days.
He showed 100 left in their local warehouse, and each of the other local stores had also sold out. The few that showed they had any left were about a 30 mile drive from me. Now I don't know how many they had to start with, so it's hard to make comparisons. But obviously demand at OfficeMax was at least slightly higher than they expected. |

I went to my local computer store looking for Lindows and I couldn't find it! Do you think maybe they are sold out? :-)

#10 - yes, there is plenty of evidence they are telling the truth.
First, it would be very bad for them if they were lying. As you know, the media loves to bash MS... especially on the net news sites, and they would find out sooner or later than MS was lying. Second, the results are from an independent market research firm, NPD, which rests their entire company on their reputation. Third, news sites (News.com, ZDNet, etc.) all can site "insider sources" for their info, and they can't be held responisble if it turns out they are full of it. It doesn't hurt them because all they have to do is post a correction saying it turns out their "sources" were wrong. So the damage done by their lying... er... reporting, is minimal when compared to the PR damaged that would be caused to Microsoft. There ya go. |

#22. Nobody said they had a tough time finding it. There are a few stores that have sold out, but like I said I don't know how many copies they had originally.
I guess I don't understand why you are unwilling to admit that maybe sales of Windows XP aren't as poor as you hoped? |

What all of the "yeah right!" posters continue to ignore is the fact that these are real sales results done via market experts. Their reputation relies on their accuracy.
So, because your home town Compusa has copies of XP, you *know* that this data must be fake. How interesting... and how ignorant. Oh, and #21, what does MS being a monopoly have to do with XP sales statistics? And how exactly do you disagree with somebody being a monopoly? Is that like disagreeing with somebody being ignorant? Well, then, I'm with you. |
