Agreed #5.
I tell you what it is. One meets people, learns of a need and something about doing "something" to help just takes over. Pretty soon, one finds a lot of one hears of another and it just builds. Just about every business owner I know, does two things, 1) we have our own minimum wage - not less that 13 an hour - no matter how under-trained people are - they can be trained, and 2) we all give a great deal to a lot of different efforts, The Bells Society, Clowns Care, sports teams for girls, under-resourced schools - all kinds of stuff. I know of two guys that work like mad med for all kinds of kids and what happens is we all end up helping one another help whomever is trying to get something done. Renting zoos out for kids in need, funding networks for small schools, all kinds of stuff. I think that a lot more is given back - especially by people who are self-made and have done well enough to even try.
I know one guy that cannot hold one conversation with one kid that he does not try and create an opportunity for. Bill Gates sounds a lot like the guys we work with and for. Man, we even got together and created our own pool for perscription drugs - so staff would not have to come out of pocket for it waiting on insurance claims. There are a lot of people working real hard to make things better for people and no Govt. or tax is necessary or nearly as efficient.
