Gawd...sometimes I could just croak....
The API's and design for the new FW are well known...and shared well...
The new WFW works well - even behind MS's own ISA 2004 and as updated with the FW Client in SP2 for the older FW Client in ISA 2000.
Previsously, the use of ICF behind even ISA could cause problems. This was addressed and the API's made available to partners - especially the larger ones, make it easy and desired to run both the native WFW in SP2 and whatever other software client and or hardware FW appliance one chose to write and or run.
People really need to bone up on applications filters and how they differ/are used/controlled in SW and SP2/ISA. BTW, regardless of what third-party SW FW's do, or do not do, users should turn the native WFW back on - it will "ignore" and also augment whatever other SW FW is running - unless the FW is used to enhance the WFW - in which case one would have zero trouble and probably make a decent living...hint...flipping....hint....MS created not only a killer FW, but a path for third-party vendors to take a free ride by providing easy to create and manage advanced interfaces for its use. Gak...spit...dern'it...what does a brother have to do to please people? Oh, I get it now....cease to exist and march lock-step into the camps with the OSS converts!
