I agree with Mr. Dee, Encarta rocks. I've also acquired each version since about 2000's Reference Library. The kids [of all ages] have really liked it and some are really looking forward to the new online math tools. Its integration with MSN [the annual BYOA version], is really nice and provides for a very good, yet safe surfing experience for our kids - ages 9 to 26 - and yes, the year old doesn't like ads, and Internet rubbish any more than the little ones do. We looked for the 2005 DVD version on Sunday, but did not find it...will look again this week.
Looking at the online math tools suggests that it has really come a long way and that some good sources are evolving to help parents and kids in an area that has not received nearly enough attention. I hope they will extend this to all the sciences and CS, most especially.
