PERSISTENT RUMOURS reach our ears that when Microsoft finally does release Windows 64 XP, it may only be available in versions for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). If these rumours turn out to be true, this would effectively deal a blow to smaller system integrators and to enthusiasts seeking to build Intel or AMD 64 based systems for themselves. | ||

Not entirely, they can just purchase the OEM version along with a token piece of hardware and have at it...just like people did to get the OEM version of XP...and previous version before that.
Nothing new really, potentially illegal, but nothing new. |

| I'm confused. I thought that Windows XP 64bit version for Itanium is already released as OEM only and that an AMD 64bit version is currently in beta to be released sometime soon. Can somoene clear this up? |

I don't know...ask your precious Apple. Maybe it's because it's a new platform and MS wants it to go out on tested/certified hw until the platform matures. How long has the bluetooth standard been out and how many problems are people having. It's phased approach, not overnight. humor |

Lol, it would be easier then typing all this crap...and monitoring 5 different threads for my rebuttals :)
You didn't hurt my feeleing...just pointing out the apple business model is exactly what you described. At least other OEM's can ship 64bit XP...but this will change as the market matures...anything else is speculation.
