Windows XP Starter Edition Revealed | |

Microsoft is currently planning a new edition to the Windows XP family of operating systems, namely "Starter Edition". Starter Edition is the name of a previously announced effort to deliver a tailored and localized Windows product to Thailand and Malaysia, as part of Microsofts efforts to enable access to technology. Previous rumours suggested that Windows XP Starter Edition would include a set of applications on top of the standard Windows XP installation (including Office 2003). We cannot confirm these reports but are awaiting a statement from Microsoft Press. | ||

#5 Because they *are* free. And you might be suprised, if you try out some of the average user friendly distributions yourself, you'll find that installing Linux is as easy as inserting a CD and clicking a few buttons. If the average user cannot do that, they're not going to do any better in Windows!

#13 I would argue that most users still have problems with right clicking.
#12 Exactly, no OSS is perfect, and I see a need for all of them. The market will decide...not MR. MSUCKS. It's when people slam problems in one OS and glorify another when both share the same problems. But to be honest, if you have uninformed users out there that get there news from ZDNet and "Microsoft Watch" and they don't understand the big picture...you get drones of mindless OSS zealots like MSucks. The one argument of OSS had above MS was independent code review by experts (not amateurs) in security firms and enterprises. But this was solved by shared source a few years ago. humor |

Microsoft is awesome, it's not perfect, whoever said that, but it's so much better than Linux.
"And "shared code"? That sounds about as serious as "KKK tolerance". " Shared Source, not Share Code. Serious regarding what MSucks? Your analogy is pointless as ever. humor |

| #16 There's no right clicking required to install Linux, so users are safe there! Linux is as easy to install as Windows. If you can install one, you can install the other. |

#20, it's easy for us techies...but data migration is still tough for most users on any platform . Honestly, I'm not one of those "users are morons" type people...but most technology needs to be soooo simple so that more than say 25% of users can actually use the product. Some peoples just aren't wired the way techies are (like #20). But that's OK, I want my doctor to know the human body inside and out...I don't give a damn that he doesn't know how to burn a CD. It takes different strokes...
#21 I'm not a zealot, I can see the value of Linux/Unix/BEOS/OSX/etc. I have some rational thought behind why I believe that MS is a great (albeit not perfect) platform. You only say a) Microsoft x is crappy, or Linux is awesome and have only biased/sensationalist comments.
