Apple today announced Apple Remote Desktop™ 2, the second generation of Apple’s asset management, software distribution and help desk support software. Along with dramatic improvements in screen sharing performance, Apple Remote Desktop 2 includes more than 50 new features for centrally managing Mac OS® X systems. “With Apple Remote Desktop 2, we’ve delivered a powerful suite of IT management tools that includes high-performance, real-time screen sharing,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Apple Remote Desktop 2 is essential for anyone managing a group of Macs.” | ||

| Um, you two need to do a little research... This isn't just screen sharing. The same free products for Linux work on the Mac. Just because it's called "Remote Desktop" doesn't mean it is equivalent to Windows "Remot Desktop". This has the functionality of SMS and many other tools which cannot be provided by one server product or service in the Windows or Linux world: remote installations, scheduling tasks and startups, hardware and software reporting, screen sharing and remote controlling (of Mac, Windows, and Linux systems), monitoring multiple systems simultaneously (up to 50), and many other features... All of the free tools you mention are availabel and free on the Mac. |
