Hi,
The move has more to do with support to web developers and what will be easier for them to add - e.g., support for PNG32, etc...
Also, as part of planned support for the increasing use of secure web services - again, to support developers and finally, better integration for developers splitting the presentation layer with the simultaneous ue of Visual Studio .Net and Front Page 2003. The end result will be easier, less costly devlopment and the ability to rapidly develop web aplications with a richer look and feel and improved functionality.
I'd imagine that when people more fully assess the security enabled with XP SP2 that they will see that most of that has been addressed very well.
I'd also expect to see improved support for API's used by first and third party developers of anti-mal-ware software - including that which stops ad-ware, spy-ware, etc...
It's a good thing, but also a very natural part of the evolution of web services, the tools division and on-going development for Longhorn.
Personally, I question the future relevance of the browser and agree with the camp looking toward CLI and CLR - the browser is irrelevant, but most just don't know that, yet.
Thanks, Lloyd
