I suggested this to MS like 5 years ago! Glad to see someone paid attention. ;) Seriously, this is very, very smart. It also goes well to make MS appear to do something to help the situation of data recovery from a disaster when in reality they're just loosening a single license restriction.
Nice. Add this to the 10 year support and MS could really kick the other solutions even harder. |

| I couldn't be more thrilled about this. It makes good business sense for MS and with the reduction in licenses I'll need to purchase I'm looking to save about 45K in the next month alone. |

#8 I doubt it, you may see some large enterprises signup for renewals on the SA program due to this, but this won't affect 9/10ths of the companies out there.
#9 There are ways around this (as I've posted before). Boot from SAN (supportable in Win2K3), replicate the changes across the network to another SAN (DR facility). Upon failure you just rezone the LUNs on the SAN for the new server to boot from that particular volume. Voila! A DC that is not out of date and you have only had to use 1 Win2K3 license. Aside from that, You shouldn't be housing all of your DCs in the same facility anyway. |

#11 Just boot directly from the SAN, achieves the same thing for the host and the VMs... Even less data loss.

| Why would you want to have a DR situation for your desktops? This program is aimed at servers. Most vendors I've dealt with charge a fairly decent fee to include an OS with the server. If I can drop the $1000 bucks or so for every two I buy for a DR situation I've come out ahead. |
