You'd think that after the FBI first warned the public about a computer virus, Microsoft would announce a comprehensive plan to fix what's broken regarding security flaws in Windows—and especially in Outlook Express. The company can start by wresting control of the browser architecture from the Web Consortium and other committees and immediately ceasing to allow fancy functionality that nobody except a few maniacs actually uses. In fact, whatever increased functionality one gets from the Web because of these features can easily be eliminated with few complaints. The same holds for some of the stupid advanced features of Word and Excel that are nothing more than Windows dressing. Let's look at a few of the troublesome subsystems that let a Web page do more than simply present data to your computer. | ||

| Well I have never been infected with a virus through outlook. I use active x plugins daily. I use one to read my outlook mail from a webpage. I use them when I look at flash. I have an activex plugin that runs on my desktop that brings me custom information that I wanted. I use cookies daily. They are the things that maintain state on the web. Thats why they were created. They save my login information so I don't have to login all of the time to websites. They save settings that I have on various websites. All these things are very usefull. Dvorak is just plain stupid on the point about cookies. How are you going to maintain state on the web? |

#9, that's because the hole is in the software that runs ontop of the OS, not the OS itself... you dumb moron.
Honestly, I think you are even more clueless than Dvorak (who is renouned for MS bashing, seems like his a disgruntled employee that got fired for being to damn stupid). I suggest you learn something about the industry before you make comments as bold as yours was. |

If your (un)lucky enough like me, you might even get the pleasure of reading one of his weekly columns in your local newspaper, where he gives "help" to all the newbies, only problem... if it involves anything more than "creating a shortcut", or "turning off that annoying clippy guy", he has to ask for help from all his readers...
And this guy gets an entire page in the largest computer industry bi-weekly magazine?! Just a question.... anyone know the requirements for being a IT journalist, other than a flare for the dramatic and the ability to blow everything out of proportion? |
