Wow, there are so many things that one could comment on, but two appear to emerge as most significant, and to me, seem to have received very little attention...the first is the level of effort MS expended to bring SP2 online in as deep and comprehensive a form as it is - even if it meant slipping Longhorn...in the context of companies being measured by what they do, this signals just how good MS really is....not just technically, but as a company and as an industry leader. The second area that is not spoken to enough are the "NX" technologies supported in SP2 - with NX, SP2 will close off common attack paths and remove the threats, small and large that have presented themselves over the past two years.
There is perhaps a larger third element that is also over-looked - MS is a force for good...focusing on doing good things for good reasons, which contrasts sharply with the authors of malicious code, or pundits commenting on flaws rather than working to provide alternatives. When we discover challenges, we also work to discover ways to work around them, or to offset their impact on our users. As we engage in this effort, we always hope that we will see more of that from others.

#1 The reason for NX not featuring predominantly is likely due to the fact that unless your CPU supports NX, this feature is utterly useless to you. Therefore unless you are running on an AMD64 chip (or an Intel Itanium), this won't change anything for you. The great thing about NX is of course that it encourages AMD, Intel (and Transmeta who have also signed up!) etc to make sure they incorporate it into their upcoming chips - meaning that you might make use of this feature when you next upgrade.

It's not just Opteron and Itanium, the newer Pentium 4's and probably AthlonXP's will have them, if they don't already.

#5, I think he's talking about the average user who never uses Windows Update beccause they think it isn't necessary or is too time-consuming, or they don't know what it is. They don't check auto update notifications because they think it's some malicious program. They generally only update their OS when they get a new computer, or when there's a new version at retail.

#13 (and #14) of course it's up to the user to be a technical support guru, after all they paid for the product, it's up to them to make sure that it works and maintain it. This is true for anything you buy. So clearly if as a user you don't pay attention to updates, you can only blame yourself, after all, they are out there waiting to be downloaded.

The only thing consistent I have seen in msucks arguments is that he hates Microsoft. Other than that, technically, they are all over the board. The other day he argued that Microsoft should make it such that everybody has to be a tech support guru to use Windows. Today he's arguing the opposite.
Oh, and I love this claim that Microsoft should be sight-seers...
""updates" should've been available since windows XP came out, if not way before."
Was your precious Linux this way?

"Everybody should be able to run their computer's systems without ANY problems, or at least, very few problems"
Don't hold your breath. As you state later in your post there are (apparantly) people who can't even fold a ladder or use a blowdryer. IF this is the case, how can we expect them to use a computer without any problems?
"but since windows 95 every moron who can't fold a ladder uses them, and rightfully so. And microsoft assumed those users were gurus, since no backup or any other related systems were implemented, until very recently."
Windows 95 shipped with a backup application.

"It is, or it should of microsoft's concern, from the begginning, that these users who can't fold a ladder to not have any problems when running their software, because those stupid users could probably release a virus they brought into their computers to the internet, as that is how viruses spread."
That's ridiculous. Once again, if you can't fold a ladder how can anyone reasonably be expected to deliver a PC to you that you can use?
As far as backups go. Win95 had backup software, if you wanted a backup of your system you would buy a backup drive. In regards to Win95 being a pain to restore, I'm not sure I follow you. I corrupted the reg in Win95 several times and all I had to do was an upgrade install on top of the original and I was backup and running with no data loss.
There are plenty of things to criticize MS for, but you seem to be off track here.

MS deserves credit for developing XP SP2. Anyone that used the XP SP2 beta knows that there are subtle changes that will make it easier to work with users on support issues. Making Device Manager easier to find is a little thing. All the little things add up to a better product. I attack MS when they deserve it. But, I congratulate them this time around.

Phaedrus - Interesting isn't it? You noticed the same discrepancy in msucks rants. :-)
msucks - Well... there you go again.

MS has always offered CDs as an option for obtaining Service Packs.
I suspect that in addition to the normal SP CD, they will also offer an updated Security Update CD that includes SP 2 shortly after SP 2's release.

"Yes, windows IS bloated and full of worthless apps."
The apps are worthless how? Just because you don't use them doesn't mean nobody else does.
"Microsoft should include backup systems, and security upgrades, instead of 1GB+ of WebTV, eyecandy and other worthless crap"
Once again, you can backup Windows without purchasing any third party tools. Windows includes free access to security updates.
"It don't matter if the few of their high skilled users keep their systems updated, if the majority of not so skilled users do not, to the viruses, worms and malware it's no difference. They do not discriminate the idiot user from the windows MSCE update guru. They also do not discriminate a pirate from an original windows version. And that should be the administrator of that network's ( microsoft) problem."
I fail to see how Microsoft can be held responsible for users refusing to patch their machines. It's not as if virus warnings are not blared out on the new every six months or so, along with the advise to A)Install AV software B) ensure your AV is up to date and C) make sure you have installed appropriate patches from MS.
