CDRLabs.com has posted another of their in-depth DVD recorder reviews; this time they review the MSI DR8-A drive. Based on the OptoRite DD0401, the DR8-A is capable of 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD-R/DVD+RW and 2x DVD-RW writing speeds and has a maximum DVD read speed of 12x. Here's a snippet from their review:
While not as fast as some of the other DVD writers we've looked at lately, it was able to write 4GB of data in less than 9 minutes. Finding compatible media wasn't a problem either. The DR8-A's ability to write to 4x DVD+R media at 8x is something that many will appreciate. MSI's new drive was also fairly quick when writing to other types of recordable DVD media. Unfortunately, the writing quality with some DVD-R media was not as good as I would have liked. Hopefully MSI can tweak this in a future firmware update.
