<%=GetPoll(90)%>America Online's ICQ subsidiary is hoping to juice up its popular instant messenger with games and other applications, as part of a major software overhaul to be officially unveiled next week. The Internet pioneer expects to release the latest version of its instant messaging (IM) client, ICQ 4.0, this week, sources said. At that time, the company will also announce an initiative that for the first time will allow partners to obtain ICQ application programming interfaces (APIs), according to people familiar with the plan. ICQ is expected to eventually release open APIs to the public, sources said, but it has not yet set a timeframe for general availability. | ||

| Everyone has their favourite IM for a variety of different reasons. In the end users will end up picking the one where the majority of their friends are - which is the only reason why I have MSN Messenger installed, as an actual chat client, ICQ (bloated as it is) beats it hands down. |

All I want for christmas is my two front teeth...
Uh, anyway... :) A simple IM client with the ability to SECURELY transfer a file is all I want or need. Nothing else. It needs GOOD buddy management/naming capabilities and I want the buddy list stored on the server for transportability. TL |

I have 80 Technicians, 30 In-house Engineer's and a few of my 14,000 users on IM. I could not possibly live without it for instant, live communications. Email takes too long, but is my second choice (scanned every 1 minute). Phone is useless. I am on the phone almost constantly from 8am to 5pm, and if I was unable to work with my other users and engineer's by IM and email, I would never get any work done. TL |

| #7 I work in a secure environment IM is not allowed, therefore, I really don't have any need for IM clients. |
