Just up the road from Fool HQ stands the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. It's an enormous, homely place where judgments are made that can make or break fortunes. The office recently issued just such an opinion, possibly crippling a small tech company, but in the process saving Microsoft over half a billion dollars and saving Internet users from plenty of headaches. | ||

Any news on whether or not Eolas will appeal this?
Can the USPTO revoke a patent without the patent holder getting a say in the matter? |

#2 If you don't know the answers, then simply say so or don't bother replying.
"Eolas has 60 days to appeal, and given the billions of dollars at stake, it's a safe bet the company will make an impassioned defense." This simply says that they have/he has 60 days in which to appeal. I was asking if anything had happened yet, whether or not there have been any comments/signs to say one way or another what Eolas is going to do. Given that there's $521 million in damages at stake I'd be suprised if Eolas didn't appeal this decision. And so my question then is.... can Eolas "win" this? Or can the USPTO at any stage just say "no sorry" and basically end everything for Eolas? i.e. Do the USPTO have that kind of power? |
