Credit Suisse First Boston that while the competitive landscape in the consumer antivirus market "should remain relatively unchanged during 2004" for computer-security company Network Associates, Microsoft may consider entering at some point. "[T]here is hardly an area in software where Microsoft does not have influence, and the company could eventually include antivirus functionality in future service packs. We believe that the most likely timing for Microsoft to enter the antivirus market could be with the release of Microsoft Windows Longhorn, which is at least two years away," CSFB said.
