Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment finally announces the long-rumored three-disc special edition of David Fincher's hit thriller Panic Room. Presented in 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 (no DTS track is included), extras on disc one include three audio commentaries with Fincher, a second with stars Jodie Foster, Forest Whitaker and Dwight Yoakam, and a third with screenwriters David Koepp and "special guest." Extras on the other two discs include three mammoth "Pre-Production," "Production" and "Post-Production" documentaries divided into lots of little parts: "Pre-Production" features six making-of featurettes and an interactive pre-visualization including multi-angle audio and video featurettes and storyboards; "Production" includes the 60-minute documentary "Making Panic Room" plus a makeup effects featurette and "Sequence Breakdowns" of four separate action setpieces in the film; and finally "Post-Production" includes no less than 21 vignettes on the visual effects, the "Sound Design" featurette, additional "Digital Intermediate" featurettes, a multi-angle scoring session and, according to the press materials, "a few more surprises." Retail will be $39.95 and will street on March 30th.
