Security Pipeline obtained access to the first widespread beta of Microsoft's forthcoming Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) during the holidays. Microsoft has said that this beta represents a subset of what will be released when this software is finalized sometime during the first half of 2004. We tested the new software on a couple of test machines, and found it to be very reliable during a couple of days use. It's not recommended that you install this beta in a production environment, however. | ||

I'm guessing that the Final release will have more to it?
Does anybody know if SP1a is still needed to install SP2 after a format? |

I would like to use sp2's ICF, but it requires too many other services. In my current configuration with a cable modem and ZoneAlarm I have no need to run most of this stuff that ICF needs.
Application Layer Gateway service (don't need it) Network Connections (need it) Network Location Awareness (unknown) - AFD Networking Support Environment (don't need it) - TCP/IP (need it) - IPSEC driver (won't run - The authentication service is unknown. 1747) Remote Access Connection Manager (don't need it) - Telephony (don't need it) |
