Eight months after the fall of his government, Saddam Hussein has been captured by coalition forces in Iraq, the United States confirmed on Sunday. The arrest was a major victory for the coalition that has been battling an insurgency for months. "Ladies and gentlemen, we got him," L. BTW, in other news...
In Pakistan, Musharraf nearly evaded an assassination bombing. On the other hand Iran is reporting they have 130 Al Qaeda members in custody, and are contemplating what to do with them. This is potentially good news. It shows that Iran is aware of the risk that Al Qaeda presents. It is imperative that we change the face of this war, as Al Qaeda is not just against the US, but against all modern culture. It has been terribly unfortunate that Bush has not shown leadership on this path, and has instead worked to convince the rest of the world that it is only the US who is at risk. littleShadow - There is a difference between good leadership and bad leadership. Bush offers numerous examples of the latter. |

sk858, I mentioned no race in my post. Bigotry has to do with race, not sexual perversion, or baby killing. And there was no hate involoved, just a name change slur against Democrats. I was a Democrat for many years, until they went on this insane plunge to support abortion, and homosexuality. I as a Christian, and in the ministry, cannot and will not abide this.

Yes. Because many Iraqis were still terrified of man who had tortured and murdered them and their families for 40 years.
Perhaps. But why would that make them go out of their way to kill American troops? That doesn't make sense. I could see why they might shy away from helping American troops, but it's unlikely they would overtly strike against them due to fear. It's also unlikely that Saddam was behind any of the attacks on American troops after the war. Bush himself said that things are likely to get worse, not better, now than Saddam has been caught. The way I see it, there are primarily two good things about the capture. First, we might be able to get some information from him. Maybe even where those weapons of mass destruction are. (Though I'm pretty convinced at the point that Bush is a liar, at least about the weapons.) Second, it's a very symbolic thing. That always helps approval ratings. I guess we shall see if the terror fades. I really doubt it. But I hope you're right. Saddam won't be able to use his stolen billions to fund terror inside Iraq and abroad. Where are the terror links, parker? Sorry, but the fact that Osama had terror cells in Iraq doesn't mean squat. WE have terror cells in the United States. There has never been a clear connection between Saddam and terrorism, despite the fact that Bush has made every attempt to make one. Obviously, he was a horrible dictator and treated his own people terribly. But the fact of the matter is, we put him in power, we gave him many of the weapons he had, and we looked the other way while he murdered his own people. There are countless horrible dictators around the world, many of which WE put there. We don't seem to care about what they're doing. Why would you have us believe that we cared about what Saddam was doing? We only "came to the rescue" when, a.) our oil was in danger, and b.) when it was very politically profitable to do so. |

err... people here still think there ever were any weapons of this kind in iraq?
Well, the first UN inspectors DID find chemical and biological agents. He used them twice, as a matter of fact. Chemicals on the Iranians in the Iraq-Iran war in the 80's (also Biologicals were suspected, but have not yet been proven, perhaps it'll come out now), and even ON HIS OWN PEOPLE the Kurds. He used both chemical and biological WMD's on them and even expiramented on the children. UN inspectors in 1992, 3, and 4 found tons and tons of Anthrax. Enough to kill every human being on Earth several times over. Somehow, between 1994 and 2002, all those tons and tons of Anthrax (not to mention Serin gas components, VX gas and several other chemical nerve agents) just disappeared. Mind you, an effort to properly dispose of that level of Anthrax is a major undertaking and would likely involve hundreds if not thousands of people and many years not to mention tons and tons of documentation (even by a secretive regime). So, even if he didn't properly dispose of it and just dumped it on the ground, there would've been a major ecological disaster. Many of the animals and humans in the area would all die or be several injured by such an event. But instead, *poof* they just vanished. Shh... Howard Dean doesn't want you to know that. He'd rather have Saddam still in power because that'd be the RIGHT thing to do, right? No, I've read and heard several reports (in fact, there was one last night on the O'Reilly Factor) that sources are starting to come forward now that it's certain Saddam is captured. They're saying that Saddam trucked them off to Syria and Iran, both of whom are holding them for Saddam. The ones in Syria made it to the Becca (Becha? sp?) valley in Syria where numerous terrorist groups reside and train (including Al Qaeda, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, etc). They are in custody of the WMD's. Great thought, huh? CIA sattelite photographs (this game out shortly after the Statue fell) from a month before the war started showed huge convoys of semi tractor-trailors leaving Baghdad and several other cities in central Iraq headed towards Syria. They all drove to warehouses and storehouses in the Becca valley in Syria. By now, many of those weapons have probably been sold off to various terrorist groups and are now in the hands of Al Qaeda and other forces. the fact that Osama had terror cells in Iraq doesn't mean squat. WE have terror cells in the United States You mean the CAMPS, TRAINING CAMPS, funded and overseen by the Iraqi government. Not just cells, but CAMPS. As far as I know, we don't have CAMPS here in the US, let alone sanctioned ones. Certainly even you can see the difference between Saddam funding and participating in the training of Mohammed Atta, leader of the 9/11 group of hijackers and a couple covert Al Qaeda ops here in the US, right? Right? |
