I was just thinking about something like this today, but not for older systems.
With Windows XP requiring in excess of 63 updates (many, many more if you do not have SP1 installed), it's gotten to the point where those without Internet Access or on Dial-up are being put in an impossible position.
What I would like to see is a yearly CD-based subscription for less than $50 a year that would provide a monthly CD that, when inserted, would act _exactly_ like Windows Update. You put it in, it autoruns, scans your system, and presents the updates you need.
I have absolutely no doubt that it can be done, and done fairly easily.
This would also be a boon for travelling service Tech's and other support personel.
BTW... Yes, that number 63 is accurate. That is how many updates I have had to apply from Windows Update since installing XP the last time. Without having SP1 installed, the list is well over 100.
I went to the installation history and counted them :)
