Apple's Power Mac G5 has been named best personal computer in PC Magazine's annual Awards for Technical Excellence. Calling the machine a "dazzling display of disruptive technology and processor independence," PC Magazine cites backward compatibility, the PCI_X slots, Firewire 800 and USB 2.0, and innovative, effective and quiet heat management as major reasons for giving the Power Mac the title. Performance was also a major contributor. "The G5 performed significantly better than any previous Mac—and equaled or bettered the performance of Intel-platform machines—on our all-important graphics and content creation tests," the article states, and concludes that the Power Mac G5 is an significant step forward in desktop computer technology.
