We thought some of you may just like to see the new Windows Messenger 4.5 in action before it goes up for download. Notice the new grouped contact lists, tabbed interface and that XP skin running on Windows Me.

Isn't sending a message to someone not logged on the same as sending them an email? Why don't you just send them an email? You can keep track of the history of the messages this way as well...
I agree with #48. This would be a great feature as would be the history. Same thing as you get with outlook express. That would totally be awesome.
#49 yeah its the same thing as email. Why not integrate the whole thing with Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook. Then you could use the built in search utilities for those programs which are already good. Or maybe incorporate it into something like the history in Internet Explorer. Thats my major beef with MSN right now. THere is no way to keep a history of all of your messages.
There are some problems doing this that would need to be worked out. If the history is on your local computer then what happens when I am on my PocketPC using messenger? What if I was using a cell phone? Where would my history be stored?
I do think its a good idea though.

Check out the Internet Connection Firewall from within XP. It has port listings that you can enable Messenger from behind the firewall.
