MS NT 4.0 MSCEs to keep their creds after all | |

Today's Microsoft climb-down (haven't there been a lot recently?) will be to relent on the expiration of Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) qualifications for NT4.0, according to a report at OCWorkbench. NT 4.0 itself was retired at the beginning of this month, and the plan, announced in September 1999, was for NT 4.0 MCSEs to have their credentials zeroed on 31st December 2001, but now they're going to get to hang onto some status, rather than just becoming no-account bums. | ||

| That sucks. But not if you have your NT4 cert. I got my w2k cert cause I was excited that all the idiot paper MCSE's with NT4 certs would expire, and the industry would be left with those that actually knew where the start button was. Oh well. Maybe someday. My guess is that they'll keep two OS levels effective at a time. NT & W2K, then W2K & Blackcomb, etc. |

No, this is good. My MCSE is now called MCSE-NT4 and yours is called MCSE-Win2k. Something like that anyway.
I for one have been pretty pissed off that in order to update from NT4 to Win2k I have to retake all the tests, except for two. On top of that, I receive no benefit from Microsoft for doing so. No technet subscription, etc... Then they had the nerve to claim the certification I got last year is not valid anymore, despite the fact that most companies are still using NT4 and will be well into next year. Honestly, I knew the MCSE was a marketing ploy when I first took the tests. But this was pretty blatant, and I guess I think it's fair to expect something in return like a free subscription to MSDN-Operating system or something like that. |

| I got my W2K Cert last year, so I don't know how bad it has gotten. But with NT4 I saw people that had never even installed NT walking out of the both with perfect scores on the tests. That is pathetic. They need to fix that before I ever do another MS test. It needs to be damn near impossible to cheat. Like changing the question pools every 2-3 months. |

| Agreed, but when I started my new job 18 months ago, they refuesed to take MCSE's seriously. I didn't have mine yet, but after I started, I heard their real opinion. We were tested during the interview and I scored the best. They said out of the 10-15 MCSE's applying none of the scored even 50%. This gives employers a bad impression of what a real MCSE is supposed to be. I am finding that I shouldn't even mention I have one anymore in order for people to take me seriously. Its sad. |

Just because you have an MCSE doesn't make you competent. But by the same token because you don't have one doesn't make you competent either.
