Between the Blaster worm and the Sobig virus, it's been a long two weeks for Windows users. But nobody with a Mac or a Linux PC has had to lose a moment of sleep over these outbreaks -- just like in earlier "malware" epidemics. This is not a coincidence. | ||

Millions use OS X and other non Windows OSes. Hundreds of millions use Windows OSes. A cost-benefit would seem to indicate that writing Windows worms is a more productive use of time than writing for other platforms.
Also, perhaps the author is unaware of the several Linux worms that have been released in the last few years. Perhaps they didn't get enough press for the author to be aware of them, because there aren't enough Linux users for the press to care? |

The Goodyear tires on my car do not explode like those Firestones on the Ford Explorer from a couple years ago.
Therefore my Goodyear tires are absolutely perfect and free of defects and flaws and I will NEVER have a problem with them. --- If you believe the above statement, you're probably a Linux user or a Mac user because you believe that Windows is insecure and thus it gets all the attacks, but your OSes are perfectly secure and free from all defects -- perfect. Never mind those 50+ patches for Red Hat Linux 9 or the fact that there is probably a higher percentage of not-fully-patched Linux boxes then there are Windows boxes (especially in the server arena). There have been, and will and increasing number of, Linux worms. Linux is by no means safe from exploits. If you replaced all the Windows boxes in the world with Linux right now, in 2 weeks, we'd have worms and viruses that would make MSBlaster look like a small prank. |
