It's not often that a small Maine company could claim to be as large as Microsoft. Earlier this summer, however, DeLorme, the Yarmouth mapping and software company, could make the claim - at least for part of its business. In June, DeLorme sold nearly $1.2 million in mapping software and equipment, equaling Microsoft, which had dominated the market as it dominates most of the software markets it enters. | ||

This isn't very accurate. They're talking about small consumer market products. ESRI which averages around $24 million a month in sales is the granddaddy in the mapping business. MapInfo is another large player and sells like $7 million a month. Then on GPS equipment side Magellan,Trimble and Garmin are also major players with more sales than DeLorme. Not to take away from their accomplishment, but Microsoft isn't the only player in this market. This post was edited by sodablue on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at 19:22. |
