Their numbers are not obtained scientifically and they won't open the methods or means with which they collect them and... blah blah blah IOW, all Netcrafts numbers are mostly bogus and can't be trusted for anything other than perhaps a general trend. Yes, there are probably more non-Windows web servers out there (but not in the enterprise or corporate space), and yes, there probably is an increasing trend of Windows 2003 servers and a decreasing trend of Linux servers. Other than that, the numbers are mostly bogus. |

#3 As daz pointed out, the NetCraft figures and values are as accurate as the figures you randomly generated - why they continue to post bogus information based on bogus statistics is beyond many people.
You're right, it's more important how many big(ger) businesses run a particular OS (it doesn't necessarily have to be the Fortune 500 though - the world is slightly bigger than America!). It doesn't mean much to have 10,000 users running the server of their choice on their home pc serving a couple of users each. "I'm certainly no Microsoft fanboy" really? |

Hardly. All it typically means when somebody says the figures are non-scientific is that they didn't calculate any margins of error, and / or they didn't attempt to make sure their sample was as random as possible. It does not mean they are only as accurate as a randomly generated number. In addition, this particular data isn't attempting to deduce overall Win2k3 usage. Instead, they are simply counting all the instances of Win2k3 they could find. This makes their lack of "scientific" methodology less important. | Arki: So you are comparing Apache 2 to IIS 5... why not compare it to IIS6, which has yet to have a vulnerability found, unless I'm mistaken. |

CPUGuy - Because that would be unfair!
You must always compare the latest Linux release with the older Windows release, otherwise Linux won't look so good. :) |
