Less than a week after it released its technical refresh, the Microsoft Office team has issued new homework to beta testers. The homework assignment involves seven tasks covering the basic functions of Microsoft Office 2003's new Information Rights Management, or IRM, abilities.
When the IRM software is used, senders can prohibit email recipients from forwarding the email to others, copying the contents of the email, or printing the email. While there is no way to assure the recipients won't just retype the message word for word, it does provide an extra level of security.
While companies are can set up their own content management servers, testers wanting to complete this assignment will be required to sign up for a "free trial" of Microsoft's.
