Microsoft has slashed prices on Windows XP and Office in Thailand, a move that could curb the spread of the Linux operating system in the country. Microsoft last week announced plans to join the Thai government's "people's PC" project and said it would offer PC buyers in Thailand a combined Windows XP and Office suite for a mere $35.80 (1,490 baht), The Bangkok Post reported. | ||

Maybe Microsoft is realising that they are doing something wrong.
In Europe software is more expensive than in the US and in Turkey, for instance, is even more expensive. When you consider the fact that an avarage American man earns 13 times more than an avarage Turkish man, the prices look even more ridiculous. In Turkey, Microsoft sells OS products for 20% more than its US price, and Office products 60% more than its shelf price in the US. Adobe's pricing policy is not any different. So it shouldn't be any surprise to anyone that pirated software is very common in Turkey. I gave Turkey as an example, since i know it better than any other country, however I also know that the situation is not different in most of the developing countries. |
