The headlines from the last week shouting about the rivalry between Larry Ellison and Craig Conway overshadowed the real subtext to the struggle for PeopleSoft: the coming competition between Oracle and Microsoft for who's going to be No. 1 with enterprise customers. This is a lot more than an offshoot of a personal rivalry between two companies--and their strong-willed founders--who aren't very fond of each other. Structural changes in the software industry are forcing both Oracle and Microsoft to step outside their comfort zones and vie for new customers. And with some $30 billion in Internet applications business up for grabs, the stakes couldn't be higher. | ||

The question has already been answered.
Oracle is running scared if they think a hostile takeover of a competitor using a good chunk of their cash on hand is in any way going to help them. Incredible. We've began in recent years to move away from Oracle as a database because of various issues we've had. One would think Oracle would commit their resources to addressing that, but no... they're worried more about CRM. |

| My company's biggest flop was over a decision to use Oracle (and Java). We dropped a million bucks and a year on the effort... only to come to our senses (amazing how total lack of new product can make that happen) later and went the Microsoft route. Things have been wonderful since then. |

Mooresa56, you know that I am not a MS-Zealot or a blind MS-follower, so take this as useful advice.
Don't use such colorful language when your talking about technology, anyone's technology for that matter MS or otherwise. MS has some great stuff but I wouldn't call it "wonderful." Explain why its so great and "wonderful", because otherwise you make it sound like haven't run into any problems, and everyone knows that everyone runs into problems with technology. Zeo01 - let me elaborate on what i meant by "wonderful".
I mean that in 2.5 years, we have averaged 5% usage growth every month. Thats right, every month. My sites service close to a million subscribed (meaning they pay us) users. We are a 100% microsoft shop, except for the occasional use of ColdFusion (legacy, that we are moving away from). We literally have no problems with our Microsoft products. IIS, SQL Server, ASP, .NET, etc work together with a high degree of stability (99.97%). And we are only as low 99.97% uptime, because that factors in the occassional issue with our Big/IP solution, our CheckPoint firewalls, hardware problems, etc. All this is maintained by TWO full-time system engineers.
