A new version of the popular DVD Shrink software has been released. Here's what's new:
Improved compression and new levels. The quality is much improved.
(DVD Shrink 2.2 uses a completely different compression algorithm which is not comparable to 2.0. It dynamically determines which picture types to modify depending on the compression required, and it does this for each and every picture in the movie. It supports "partial" reduction, where only a small number of blocks in each picture are reduced, and it attempts to distribute the resulting compression uniformly among all pictures, in such a way that the error introduced by this compression does not "propagate" or amplify as playback continues.)
Added unicode support for Japanese language. Japanese release is unicode, all other languages are MBCS since unicode doesn't work on Windows 98.
Hide audio/subpicture streams of negligible size is turned off by default. Also fixed filtering bug in Streams View.
Fixed bug where "Still Pictures" mode failed while encoding menus.
If you downloaded the 2.1 beta released yesterday, be sure to update to this version which fixes a bug that prevented the new DVD from using fast forward or rewind on some DVD players.
