A Microsoft program to provide discounted or free software to government customers to compete with the free Linux operating system may hurt profits, analysts said. Linux "is breaking their monopoly control of the market," said Rob Enderle, an analyst at Giga Information Group. "Because of the discount in the government and education space, over the long term they should show declining profit margins." | ||

Learning how to "properly" set up secure(?) and administer a pure Microsoft network with Exchange, IIS, MS SQL, clustering, SMS, ISA etc takes QUITE a lot of training. "and you get great support." You obviously never dealt with MS support on an issue thats slightly more complicated than tying your shoe. For example search google about the issues surrounding Exchange 2000 IM. You can almost ALWAYS find the support you need from the web, be it MSDN or the MSKB. |

I've generally had good experiences with Microsoft tech support.
I've been involved in some fairly complicated problems. Stability of Oracle with MSDTC, using XP MSMQ in a AD/NT4 cross domain environment, etc. Granted we have an enterprise agreement for support and have a MS rep on site daily. But the problems we see are largely due to our more complex environment. If we were a smaller company life would be simpler. I've also solved a lot of problems simply searching technet and google.
