I do understand that a good business model must make money to continue operation. My comment was more of a general statement about how the internet is moving away from an advertisement revenue to a more fee based business. Many of us, yourself included I'm sure, have put up with pop-ups, spam, and general annoyances of many sites with the understanding that this was our payment for the information and services they provide.
I just feel that they could have limited the free service to less storage and limited bandwidth without having to close the doors completely. And now that MS has made this move, I'm sure the other similar services (Yahoo, etc..) will follow suite, since they don't need to keep the old model to compete any longer.
In any case, I understand the move, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. :~)-
