Microsoft Corp.'s 12th Annual Windows® Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) serves as the key knowledge and data transfer event for the Windows hardware engineer and driver developer communities, and delivers the platform vision, business value, tools and information those communities can use to develop innovative, high-quality Microsoft® Windows-based hardware solutions for compelling and richer end-user experiences. This year's show will focus on innovation and quality; keynote presentations will address the need to develop products designed to meet user needs by synchronizing hardware and software development cycles industrywide. Microsoft Chairman and Chief Software Architect Bill Gates will unveil a key example of synergistic innovation with the PC prototype code-named "Athens," co-developed by HP, in which the PC becomes the center for collaboration and communication, including advanced voice, video and text messaging, all in a consistent, streamlined design. | ||

| It looks like this project is the evolution of a prototype called "Agora'" showed by HP a while ago. Even the choice of the name "Athens" is consistent: Athens is Greece capital and "Agora''" is a Greek word meaning "Square" or, in abstract, "meeting of people". What I am wondering is if this is going to be part of "Longhorn", another specialized configuration like "Media Edition" available only with certain hardware or it will be available as a software application. Windows OS lack telephone related capabilities and it would be time to work on it. For instance I would buy right away a phone connected both to the PC and to the headset by Bluetooth or WiFi connection . |
