The release of Windows Server 2003 is a small step forward for the platform--an effort that really should be considered Windows 2000 Server Second Edition. With the exception of Internet Information Services 6.0, there aren't any far-reaching or fundamental changes in the product. Organizations that like how Windows 2000 Server is working for them will find more to like in the new release; those that aren't already using Windows Server won't see many new reasons to consider the platform. | ||

mat, I have it installed at home and I also am impressed by it. I do concede that I don't have much experience with unix/linux but Win2k3 is far superior to Win2k. In particular IIS 6.0, they have also made tremendous step forwards with FTP. On IIS 5.0 it was joke.

Umm... I can list just a *few* new features that are all pretty significant:
- POP3 Service - IIS 6.0 - .Net Framework 1.1 - I know, but it's still a feature... - MSDE 2000 included, with a license to run it - Sharepoint Team Services 2.0 (free download later this summer) - Realtime Communications Service (Greenwich) (free download later this summer) - Shadow Copy for Shared Folders/Volume Shadow Copy - DFS and FRS improvements - TONS of new command line tools and documentation! - Group Policy Management Console & other GP improvements - Windows Media Services 9.0 I'd say that's a small step forward... |

Let's not all forget my number one favorite new "feature" in Win2k3....
It comes completely locked down. I'm willing to be that while there very may well be security holes found in Win2k3 Server, almost none of them will be readily exploitable because of the fact that Win2k3 comes with almost nothing enabled by default. |

| #6 - There has been lots of rumor and speculation about RTS, but STS 2.0 will definitely be a free download. |
