Microsoft is expected to announce on Friday that Windows Server 2003 has completed testing and has been certified final, or gold, code. Release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows Server 2003 code clears the way for next month's product launch event in San Francisco. RTM also means that computer manufacturers can begin selling systems with the software. | ||

The difference between the headline and the first sentence of the article tells the sad story.
It will still probably be the most stable, most secure, most functional, easiest to operate, and fastest Windows yet, but to heck with the 15 days of escrow. So much for shipping when it's ready. It had to be ready today, so we'll all just say it's ready today. Last one to the blue screen is a rotten egg.... |

| Since Server 2003 has now gone gold (RTM), that also means, technically, that the Beta software that is being used (for things like the Office 11 beta) must no longer be used. Because as a MS spokesperson said on teh private boards, once the product ships, the beta software's EULA demands that the testers stop using it (I can't quote the article, becuase it was in the private newsgroups and that too violates the EULA and the beta agreement.) |
