Recently, TDK announced their new Armor Plated DVD recordable media which features a new coating technology that supposedly makes the media 100 times more resistant to scratches! CDRLabs has posted the first look at these new DVD-R discs.
You do have to admit that TDK's Armor Plated media looks pretty good for being scratched, written on and sanded. While I doubt anyone will subject their media to conditions this extreme, it's obvious that TDK's new discs are well suited to their task of withstanding damage caused by every day use.
According to TDK, these discs should be shipping sometime in the first quarter of this year; in other words, very soon. No price has been announced either. However, TDK has said that these discs will carry only a small premium, compared to regular DVD-R discs. And no, DVD+R drive owners haven't been left out. It has been reported that TDK has plans to release 4x DVD-R and 4x DVD+R media within the next few months.
