Although the movie-game adaptation is often considered the mark of death for a game, (for good reason), lesser known is the TV-game adaptation, simply because few dramatic TV shows have what it takes to hold their own on the “other” small screen. Although recently, games like Buffy the Vampire Slayer have scored reasonably well on the X-Box, the penultimate SF/paranormal series, The X-Files, has had no such luck; the only game it has yet received was a PSone and PC adventure game that utilized Full-Motion Video, or FMV, filmed with live actors. Despite a number of cleverly-placed references to the show, the point-and-click format of that game hindered its critical success, simply because there were many rabid X-Files fans disappointed by what they played.
