Motorola to announce Microsoft deal | |

Those anti-Microsoft fanatics from The Register cannot stand the fact, that Motorola will soon announce a deal with Microsoft (regarding production of cell phones by Motorola and powered by Microsoft software):
"It seems likely that the disruptive Motorola-Microsoft announcement that didnīt happen at GSM World last month is now due for next Tuesday. Weīre told itīs likely to be an HTC design, rather than anything home grown, so that wonīt necessarily signal a deep and long-term commitment to Redmond." | ||

Motorola and Samsung are in a similar boat... trying to cover their bases with Symbian, Linux, AND Microsoft. IMO, when Motorola speaks for Linux... its a bigger indication of their desire to differentiate beyond what Symbian offers them. And thats bad for Symbian.
One cannot ignore that Microsoft is indeed making headway. They are at least "at the plate" with more and more of the major players. This post was edited by mooresa56 on Saturday, March 15, 2003 at 14:58. |

Yeah, I've listened to all the Java guys talking about how Java is everywhere and Java is the king of mobile devices and .NET is dead in the water, etc, etc, etc.
Now we see these companies dumping Palm, Symbian, Java, etc for PocketPC because it obviously had tons of features above and beyond all the competition. And low and behold... .NET runs on PocketPC (.NET Compact Framework). .NET Everywhere baby! |

And yet, I still have no desire to replace my Nokia 8290.

| blue - but that Nokia will seem older and older and older... and the MS Smartphones will continue to get better and better and better. It might take a year or two... and then one day that Nokia will break or you succomb to some smartphone feature. |
