I don't quite understand what the hub bub is about. First of all, the informatio about TS Cals has been known for many months now. Secondly, those already running Windows XP Pro are elgible for free TS Cal tokens.
You would have neeed a TS Cal when running Windows 2000 Pro clients, because it is one version behind Windows Server 2003. As for Windows XP Pro, you need a TS Cal, but if you own the Windows XP Pro license prior to the launch of Windows server 2003, you can get a free TS Cal token. See (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/howtobuy/licensing/overview.mspx) for more information on the Terminal Server Licensing Transition Plan. Steven, care to explain that? I think that making a more stable and scalable product at the highend with a guarantee of three 9's of availability and with a 5-7 year free support policy is a good way to crush Linux. Why do I say that? Well, quite simply because Linux doesn't have a close to comparable alternative. By comparison to Windows Server 2003 Linux is a very immature product. |

| Does this affect users who connect to a server remotely, say via remote desktop connection? |

| As long as MS keep the remote desktop connection as is, I could care less about TS CAL as I don't use it even with my Win2000 server. |

| Any TS client (and XP's Remote Desktop is a TS client) needs to be covered by a TS Cal IIRC. |

| i believe it only applies to TS in application server mode. The Win2000 TS in admin mode never require license for client and is limited to 3 remote sessions max. In 2003 server, TS admin mode is now called Remote Desktop not Terminal Service anymore. |
