Apple objects to Microsoft settlement | |

Apple Computer on Monday objected to a tentative antitrust settlement between California and Microsoft, saying the agreement will actually benefit the software giant. Apple's complaint largely revolves around the destiny of funds that are not claimed by individuals and businesses who qualify for rebate vouchers under the $1.1 billion settlement. Under the settlement terms, one-third of any unclaimed rebates will revert to Microsoft. The remaining amount will go to California public schools in a mix of cash and donated Microsoft software. | ||

Microsoft could use the money to buy Apple computers for the schools, but I don't think the schools want to share one Mac. ;-)

I think you are right on the price issue, but on the "do more" part I think you need to do a little more research. Personally, I think Apple's problem in Education is that they haven't been supporting education the way education needs to be supported. You need a strong sales and support team for such a large market, and Apple has been whittling that down instead of growing it. In short, I agree. Apple deserves what it has got itself in it's education losses. It didn't try hard enough. Apple got complacent and got steamrolled. TL |

apple is losing the education market and are struggling to find ANY way to keep it (buying PowerSchool, for example).
but in the end, the free market will choose a clear winner. |
