Thanks, Jeff The settlement means that individuals and businesses in California that purchased Windows or certain Microsoft application software between Feb. 18, 1995, and Dec. 15, 2001, will be able to apply for vouchers that can buy computers or software from Microsoft or other companies. | ||

This is BS! Did Microsoft overcharge? Maybe/maybe not. Any settlement where overcharging is the issue and a company admits guilt or is found guilty should have at least 2 components for resolution:
• Product or service price reduction. • Legitimate purchasers should be given a refund for the difference. Anything else is sham. - Ted |

Boy, that MSFT, they are going to be printing a lot of vouchers and lick'in a lot of stamps - yeah, very very expensive - NOT!
I wonder what their education market share will look like after the side deal with the Dept of Ed of CA plays out? Can you spell Apple disaster ahead? LOL |

I always love class action lawsuits... Sue Toshiba because floppy drives don't work, get a $50 voucher towards a new laptop. Sue Chevy because trucks blow up when hit in the side, get a $500 voucher towards a new truck.
What better way to insure customer loyalty than to get people to buy your products so they benefit from the lawsuit. BTW, everybody apply for their $5 gift certificate from the RIAA?http://www.musiccdsettlement.com/english/default.htm |

As always, the only winners are the LAWYERS.
Do you think the lawyers will be paid with gift certificates? Hell no. They insisted and will recieve CASH, regardless of which side wins. |

sodablue, you apparently didn't read the information in the articles, nor the FAQ for the settlement. The RIAA, assuming too many people don't sign up, is a check. In this case, the refund works towards any manufacturer's or publisher's product.
Mine is going towards Suse Linux 8.x. |

That's the live eval. Suse doesn't make full ISOs available for download. The very page to which you linked me says as much.
Check = deposit and spend where I like. Gift certificate = spend where the company says. Not same difference. And I'll spend my money where I like. I've already provided jobs at Dell, Sony, Chevrolet, GE, and a few computer component companies in the last year. Besides, Suse has employees, too, and I imagine they like to get paid. |

seriously, guys (especially you, soda, Jagged, enforcer, etc...), this is not (I repeat not) how I feel/think, I just think it's funny. I swear:
This is me, if I was a Bush Republican or an Apple Apologist... or both (if there are any): "Okay, businesses get out their and claim your vouchers. Consider it a favor to Corporate America, but if you don't claim your vouchers, those lousy, useless public schools will get it rather than the truly productive engine of the American economy. Claim your vouchers and keep the money out of the grubby hands of public education!!" |

WHAT!? How dare they try to sell software by closing the source!!!! blah blah blah. Anyway, same diff... gift certificate, check, either way you get to choose what to spend your money on.
