Microsoft to Appeal Java Ruling | |

Microsoft Corp. plans to appeal a federal court ruling requiring it to include its rival's updated Java programming language in its Windows operating system. The ruling Monday gave Sun Microsystems a victory as it pursues its private antitrust suit against the software giant. Sun shares were up 19 cents, more than 6 percent, to $3.15 each in morning trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market. Microsoft spokesman Jim Desler said the company needs to review the details of the decision, but initially plans to appeal the decision to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. Microsoft was disappointed in the decision by U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz, said Desler, adding that it was "premature" to comment on when the latest version of Java will be included in Windows. | ||

| This article mentions that Sun has a Vice-President for strategic litigation. I think that pretty much spells out their business plan and priorities. |

| Java not being included within Windows does not stifle any type of competition. The only thing that would hurt Java is if Windows didn't come with the latest version of Java, however, that, in my opinion, is something that Microsoft should be able to decide for themsleves whether or not to include Java. Java is a 3rd party app that Microsoft can not support themselves, and have to rely on Sun for that support. |

inferior.
the worst JVM on the market is produced by Sun. Everyone agrees with that. IBM's version bea's version, well everyone else's version is better than suns Minus support for the newer features in java 1.4 MS version is still faster and more responsive than Suns (fastest version). Sad part is that Java has stagnated under Suns guidence. Most of the features that have been added are from the real groups that actually are trying to advance it. of course they introduce things that Break it (hmm sim to the court case that Sun filed against MS) Bas as a Linux supporter, you should know that MOST of the OS groups hate Sun and Java as much as they Hate MS. el |
