In my last eLAB, I talked about Microsoft and about what chance there was that we'd be seeing our favorite monopolist build server software for Linux some time in the next few years. That column drew a good deal of e-mail, and with the busy holidays fast approaching, this seemed like an excellent time for a cop-out, reader-response-oriented column. | ||

Bizazz - It's not so much that I support MS, as much as I do not agree with the merits of most of the complaints.
For instance your argument equates Microsoft to Hitler, and really loses any credibility at that point. The alternative to Microsoft that Linux proponents keep giving us is one in which the OS is owned and maintained by the Government. I don't see that being particularly appealing, it will certainly kill any innovation in the market. |

I know that MS is composed of many talented people who deserve payment for their time and skill. These are all open standards, and MS had a hand in engineering and/or supporting all of them. --------------------------- "Democracy seems to winning again, as people exercise their rights to choose and gradually move to a open system(Linux) " -------------------------- And this is one of the many flaws in the logic of OSS advocates. Ever stop to consider that many people exercise their rights to choose Microsoft (or other for profit) software? OSS advocates (the zealots anyway) are like proselytizers seeking to convert people to another religion. Not once do they actually step back and think, "Maybe these people are happy with their current beliefs," or "Who are we to force our opinions onto others not seeking our influence?" -------------------------- I echo sodablue on the rest of your post.
