The top search terms on Google for 2002 show Spider-Man as the fastest climber, while Nostradamus is yesterday's news. Other surprises included Linux beating Microsoft Spider-Man was the fastest climber among search terms on Google in 2002, according to statistics released by the popular search engine on Monday, which give an insight into the zeitgeist of the online community. Google averages about 15 million visitor hours each month, compared with Yahoo! search at six million hours, according to Danny Sullivan, who runs Searchenginewatch.com. Search hours are calculated by multiplying the number of site visitors by the average number of minutes each spends at the site. | ||

Well duh!
Most Windows users barely know they're using Windows, so why would they go searching for Microsoft? (Plus, microsoft.com is typically the first thing that pops into people's minds.) Linux, on the other hand, is primarily use by geeks with antiestablishment personalities. :-) In addition, Linux users tend to need to go to far more places for help since there is no single definitive resource for help. |

#3 - good point, although metrics that attempt to guage how much time people spend on a site is unreliable at best because HTTP is a connectionless protocol.
Current methods simply assume that if one request to a site is followed by another request to that same site, the user has been on that site the entire time. |

#15 - While UDP is connectionless and TCP is not, when you're talking about higher level protocols like HTTP, you can describe them as connectionless when they do not maintain a connection.
HTTP connects, sends a request, receives the data, and disconnects. Therefore it is connectionless. FTP connects, sends a request, receives the data, and stays connected while waiting to send another request. Therefore it is connection-full. This is entirely different than TCP vs UDP. TCP establishes and maintains a connection throughout the entire process of sending or receiving descrete packets of data. UDP just sends the data. It doesn't attempt to connect to anything, and it can't know whether or not the data got there successfully. At any rate, my original statement is completely correct. |
