First, the darkened path: Today, Real Networks CEO Rob Glaser will announce that he's releasing another batch of source code for Helix Producer software, one of Real's core product suites. The move comes a little more than a month after the company released its first batch of source code in an attempt get out from under the growing shadow cast by Microsoft (MSFT) in the streaming-media business. With Microsoft giving away its streaming-media software, gratis, in Windows (sound familiar, Netscape fans?), Real is turning to the developer and partner community to encourage the creation of new applications and markets. | ||

| .NET comes with it in certain versions. It does have to be explicitly installed, however. Don't know about previous server versions. |

In Win2k Server, you did it in the 'configure your server' wizard.
.NET has a very much enchanced Configure your Server wizard, and thus, it's much easier to setup in .NET. God I hate the name .NET. |

With all the crap ms is putting into the dam media client I might actually pay 9.95$ if they will produce an app similar in style to mediaplayer 6\7 this new crap it overbearing..and a waste of resources... course real is just as bad now.. bla.. why I'm sticking with winamp and my ati player for my porn..lol

KnightHawk: WMP7 is more 'bloated' than any version of WMP, why would you want to go back to it? It was slower, it took more resources, and the UI wasn't nearly as good.
Basically, you are saying that you want LESS options... that doesn't make any sense. There is nothing 'bloated' about WMP8 and WMP9. Bloated means that it's just crammed full of a bunch of junk that no one would use, and put together in a poor manner. |
