In a major strategy shift, Microsoft Corp. MSFT.O will introduce software based on the Linux open source operating system in 2004 for Web services and server software, market researcher META Group predicted on Monday. Microsoft, which denied that it had any plans to develop software for Linux, is facing a growing threat from the open source software standard as it gains share in the corporate server market used to manage networks and data. | ||

| I would guess FreeBSD and maybe even Mac OSX but I think Linux is a long way off. But xcrax is right, if there is money in it, ms will be there. |

| Name one software company that actually make decent money out of Linux. Linux is all about open source and free. There is no money to make there. Companies like IBM want to promote Linux because it (1) helps sell their hardware (servers) (2) don't need to invest money to develop and support their own OS. For Microsoft to release any serious software on Linux equals suicide. |

I think the topic here is whether or not MS will offer software to run on Linux OS. Not the otherway around. Also, Unix and Linux are not exactly the same thing. This post was edited by Foxbat on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at 11:58. |

#19: which number is increasing? Unix sales are at an all-time low. Linux is gaining, but at the expense of Unix. Windows' numbers have never decreased, they continue to grow rapidly.
Eventually Windows and Linux will hit heads and Unix will either be gone or left with a tiny sliver in the middle between the two. |

| Too bad SFU 3.0 is ~$95 USD. It looks kinda cool. But I'm not shelling out the cash just to test it. |

| SFU is only $95? Wow, that's cheap! Ok, by comparison... These types of solutions used to be incredibly expensive, like $300-500 only a few years ago. |
