History is full of examples of nations or leaders who reach the top and then, in arrogance based on their position, begin to make mistakes that lead to their defeat at the hands of a determined challenger. History also shows that often, these new leaders begin to make the same mistakes, which in turn lead to their own downfall. I've been reminded of this as I watch Microsoft continue to make mistake after mistake with its now dominant Web browser, Internet Explorer, mistakes that are very similar to those that Netscape made when it was on top of the browser market. | ||

Read this article very carefully. This shmuck says that Microsoft is arrogant for not including Netscrap "style" Plug-in support in IE 6.0, and not including a Java runtime in XP. And then tries to use those as proof that MS doesn't support standards. HAHAHAHA
Last I checked the Netscrap Plug-In model, and Java were proprietary technology, not open standards! It's obvious the author doesn't know a computer from his own crusty anus. This post was edited by IronCladLou on Friday, August 31, 2001 at 14:59. |

| You guys are applauding Netscape for standards adherence? My God, and you say MS people are revisionists. They are the ones that made up the proprietary tags that are so prevalent in todays webpage. Many of them now deprecated in HTML 4.0 Transitional. You don't have any idea what you are talking about. IE does a much better job of adhering to W3C standards. In IE 6 you have full support of CSS1 and DOM level 1. As far as the standards battle goes IE is definitely the champ here. Have you ever wondered why so many people write pages for IE more than Netscape? Its because IE is a whole lot easier to write for and handles errors much more gracefully. MS did a good job of listening to what the developers wanted. Netscape did not. And that kids is why MS is where they are today. |

| Problem is lots of people will stay on Netscape 4.x . None of those users like the new crappy interface of netscape. Change is bad etc. . . You are going to be carrying Netscape baggage for a long while yet. |

| Whatever. We support Mac's and PC's where I work and the PC's are vastly superior to the Mac's. When you say faster I hope you aren't talking about one filter on photoshop. Mac OS X has never been fast. Have you ever actually used it? Try booting up. Windows all versions win hands down. Try opening IE, Netscape, Opera. Windows wins. OS X.1 is supposed to get the performance to where it needs to be, but I am guessing XP will be out before they actually release it. Way to go Apple. |
